Amarnath Yatra Concludes Today After Peaceful 52 Days

Srinagar, August 19: The annual Amarnath Yatra, a pilgrimage of immense religious significance, will draw to a close today after a successful 52-day period marked by peace and smooth operations. Approximately five lakh devotees have had the opportunity to pay their respects at the holy cave shrine during this time.

The final leg of the pilgrimage commenced this morning as the Chhari Mubarak, the sacred silver mace representing Lord Shiva, embarked on its journey from Panchtarni to the revered cave shrine. Carried by Mahant Swami Deependra Giri, the mace is accompanied by sadhus and devotees chanting hymns in praise of the deity.

The Yatra, which began on June 29, has been conducted under stringent security measures with the deployment of police and paramilitary forces along the entire pilgrimage route. The cooperation of local residents has also been instrumental in ensuring a safe and incident-free Yatra.

Situated at a breathtaking altitude of 3888 meters in the Kashmir Himalayas, the Amarnath cave houses a naturally formed ice stalagmite believed to represent Lord Shiva. The Yatra concludes on Shravan Purnima, which this year coincides with the Raksha Bandhan festival.

Upon reaching the cave shrine, elaborate pujas and rituals will be performed, accompanied by prayers for world peace and prosperity. The Chhari Mubarak will then return to Panchtarni en route to Pahalgam.

Swami Deependra Giri, custodian of the Chhari Mubarak, expressed his satisfaction with the improved arrangements made by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. He attributed the increased influx of pilgrims to enhanced facilities, including the widening of the track leading to the cave shrine. The Swami emphasized that special prayers will be offered for the peace and prosperity of India, particularly Jammu and Kashmir, considered the abode of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

As the Yatra concludes, it leaves behind a trail of devotion, spirituality, and a testament to the harmonious coexistence of faith and security in the region.
