Congress’s Bharat Jodo Yatra to begin from today from Kanyakumari

From today the congress party will launch their “Bharat Jodo Yatra” from Kanyakumari. The aim of this Yatra is to Unite for India; to come together and strengthen the nation. The Yatra will start on 7th September from Kanyakumari; pass through 12 states and culminate in Jammu and Kashmir – spanning a distance of nearly 3,500 Km over the course of about 150 days.

Ahead of the yatra, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi attended a prayer gathering at the memorial of his father, former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. Rahul Gandhi will be the first politician in the last nearly four decades to walk from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. The rally comes amid the Congress’ battered fortunes and Rahul’s bruised image.

The party believes the Bharat Jodo Yatra will be a “transformational moment” for Indian politics and a “decisive moment” for the party’s rejuvenation. After visiting his father's memorial, Rahul Gandhi tweeted, "I lost my father to the politics of hate and division. I will not lose my beloved country to it too. Love will conquer hate. Hope will defeat fear. Together, we will overcome."
