Delhi: A passenger on board an American Airlines flight from New York to Delhi has allegedly urinated on a fellow male passenger while in a drunken state. The incident took place on Friday night on flight number AA292, which landed at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in Delhi on Saturday evening.
According to sources, the accused is a student at a US university and was asleep when he urinated on the other passenger, causing it to leak onto the man's clothes.
The victim reportedly complained to the crew, but did not want to file a police report as it may negatively impact his career. However, the airline took the matter seriously and reported it to the Air Traffic Control (ATC) at the IGI airport.
Once the crew became aware of the incident, they informed the pilot, who then reported the matter to the ATC. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was then alerted, and the accused passenger was handed over to the Delhi Police. The airline's security team, along with the CISF, took action after the incident came to light, and the accused was immediately taken into custody.
The Civil Aviation Rules state that if a passenger is found guilty of unruly behavior, they will be banned from flying for a certain period, depending on the severity of the offense. This is the second incident of its kind in recent months. In November 2021, a man on a New York-Delhi Air India flight allegedly urinated on an elderly woman in a drunken state.
The Delhi Police is currently investigating the matter, and the accused passenger may face criminal charges. Meanwhile, the victim may choose to pursue civil action against the accused. The incident serves as a reminder for airlines to take measures to prevent passengers from boarding flights in an inebriated state and to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers on board.
