Uttarakhand: 25 people dead as bus falls into gorge in Pauri; death toll likely to increase

At least 25 people were killed and several more feared dead as a bus carrying a marriage party fell into a deep gorge in Timari village, about 70km ahead of Dhumakot in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand late Tuesday evening.

According to initial reports, the bus carrying 40-45 people was coming from Laldhang in Haridwar via Kandagaon. The accident occurred on the Rikhnikhal-Birokhal road, according to the district of Uttarakhand late Tuesday evening.

Rescue operation being carried out.

After receiving information about the accident, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami

reached the SEOC control room at the secretariat to take stock of the situation and monitor the search and rescue operation.

"State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been mobilised and rushed to the accident spot. We are trying our best to rescue the people and take them to hospital at the earliest. Local villagers are helping in the effort," said Dhami.
